What elements or traits does a great leader exhibit?
To me, empathy is the strongest element to any leader. Empathetic to the needs of the company or group, but also empathetic to the needs of the individual— whether that is through their growth or support.
When you think of great leadership, who comes to mind? Why?
I cannot think of a single individual who is the ideal leader but rather managers who I have worked with or leadership of organizations I have volunteered with. While some have been more effective leaders than others, I have taken aspects of their management styles that I have found effective and learned from weaknesses.
How has your personal leadership style evolved?
I wouldn’t want to be the same leader as I was a few years ago or even weeks ago. Failure and feedback have been the strongest teachers to spur change for myself as a leader. Through these experiences, I have become a more compassionate, flexible and engaged leader than I have been in the past.
What is it about your background or career experiences that successfully positioned you for your role at Noodle? Describe that role. How do you support the success of your team?
I am currently a Noodle Senior Design Specialist that works with the Brand and Corporate Marketing team. I help support the Sales and HR teams as well as Noodle as whole through design collateral for events, social media, web design, video promotion and digital assets. I have been working with academia for the majority of my career and with marketing teams for over two years. These experiences have prepared me for collaborating with the Marketing team.
Describe how your career has been enhanced by exposure to diverse people, places or experiences.
When I started working with Marketing teams, I also began helping with DEI initiatives at companies. I have also volunteered with transgender organizations as I think it is vital that I support the growth of my community. Diverse views and voices are needed for any company to achieve their goals, but is also what our communities and world are built upon.
What are some of the most effective tools in your leadership arsenal?
Overcommunication has proven to be a useful tool in my design career. Creating meetings to discuss projects, asking questions about tasks through Slack or offering updates on assets; all are vital for project success but also for collaboration amongst team members.
